Royal College of Art – Wayfinding signage

First-class design for a first-class British institution.

View

The Royal College of Art in London is the world’s most prestigious and influential postgraduate school for art and design.

It underwent a rebrand in 2013. We were invited by the design agency Cartlidge Levene to collaborate and help bring the new wayfinding signage to life.

We started with a pilot scheme at The Dyson Building in Battersea designed by architects Haworth Tomkins. The pilot allowed us to test various methods of application and consider the best option for manufacture. The beautiful RCA crest was screen-printed directly onto the walls, signwriting conveyed an appropriate handcrafted feeling and machined metal plaques complemented the industrial aesthetic of the architecture.

The scheme united the two campus sites at Kensington and Battersea introducing a common language and consistent brand application. A first-class result for a first-class British institution.
